Kitsune / Fox Framed Art with Silk Kimono
Title: Kitsune
Mixed Media - water soluble crayons, coloured pencils and silk
44 x 54cm
This is a piece I have created for Ocean Shores Art Expo 2024, for the theme: Myths and Stories.
In Japanese culture, Kitsune /fox has been appearing in written stories since 822, and even worshiped in some Buddhist and Shinto shrines, as they were seen as a protector of rice harvest and leading to prosperity. Apart from religion, Kitsune appears in hundreds of stories as shape-shifting, humble, cunning & tricky, or helpful creature, often as a beautiful woman.
My Kitsune is wearing a Japanese fox mask and I used vintage silk kimono scraps. Design is inspired by Hyakunin Isshu cards.
